As CFO of enterprise-leading Janitronics Facility Services, Scott Somma has had a front-row seat to the transformation of business intelligence (BI) over the years. His experience spans nearly a decade at GE and over 25 years at major public companies, giving him deep familiarity with enterprise-grade analytics and how the technology has evolved.

That background helped him recognize something different when WorkWave introduced Wavelytics, a platform built specifically for his industry by people who understand the complexities of managing thousands of employees across multiple locations in facility services.

The timing of the conversation aligned perfectly. Janitronics was in the midst of evaluating major BI investments and was actively considering larger, generalized solutions. Instead, they chose Wavelytics, seeing the value of what advanced analytics and AI could mean for their company when directly integrated with the industry-specific ERP they were already using from WorkWave’s TEAM Software division – WinTeam. In 2025, they signed on as an early adopter.

"We want the ability to be able to influence what the platform is going to look like," Somma explains. "We feel like a company of our size and years of experience coming to the table to help actively develop the capabilities of this solution will be a win-win for both companies — us adding value and giving insight as to what we want and what we're looking for, and then also what Wavelytics will be able to deliver to strengthen the industry as a whole."

Beyond Generic Solutions

As a company managing thousands of employees across multiple locations, Janitronics recognized a need for improving real-time visibility into their operation. With 80% of their costs tied to labor, small inefficiencies compound quickly across their operations.

"There is always a benefit to more real-time data analysis," Somma says. Prior to Wavelytics, the company had been looking at solutions that might let them dump their data into a centralized database to pull insights from, including powerful — but industry-agnostic — solutions like Power BI and Tableau. They’d even begun considering a consulting alternative to build custom solutions for their needs, but Somma saw a fundamental issue with generic approaches.

"There's a lot of tools out there and some of them are really powerful," he notes. "My concern as I looked at other platforms, though, is that they don't know your business." And with consulting, Somma notes, there are never-ending ongoing costs and dependencies to factor in, too.

The unique value that industry-specific platforms bring to the table is the ability to understand the operational challenges of facility services that generic BI tools miss. Facility services companies deal with turnover rates approaching 100% in janitorial operations, staff scattered across dozens of client locations with different requirements, and the need for real-time timekeeping to catch ghost employees and time theft. A generic BI tool might track basic labor metrics, but not have built-in dashboards for the specific KPIs that matter most to facility services managers, or understand how to benchmark performance against industry standards for things like recruitment costs or staffing ratios.

"WorkWave knows our business. Janitronics has been with TEAM (WorkWave’s commercial cleaning and security software division) for years, they hyper-focus on our industries – both in janitorial and security. So that is a huge, huge benefit."

Shaping Business Intelligence First-Hand: The Value of Early Adopters

Rather than waiting for a complete solution, Janitronics joined Wavelytics' Early Adopter Program because the company understood the value of industry input in platform development and saw the promise of a program bringing together established facility services companies to help shape the solution.

"What I love about the Early Adopter Program is that we're teamed up with our peers," Somma explains. The program connects industry leaders who understand the real operational challenges facing facility services companies, creating a network of experienced operators providing input on development priorities.

This peer involvement ensures that every feature being built addresses actual business needs rather than theoretical requirements. When companies with decades of experience and thousands of employees guide development, the resulting platform delivers measurable ROI rather than generic functionality and means the difference in facilities services companies being able to ask the system questions like “How should I staff this?” or “What’s the most efficient way to increase profitability on this contract?” and get a tactical, informed answer.

"So to have a catalyst like this to allow us to learn from our other peers, whether directly or indirectly, is valuable," Somma notes. "Janitronics has been around for 50-plus years, but that doesn't mean we ever stop learning. Wavelytics is helping us ensure that we’re continuing to push ourselves forward."

Trust as a Cornerstone in Shaping the Future

Somma's willingness to join an early adopter program reflects the strength of Janitronics' relationship with WorkWave. The companies have worked together for over 30 years, creating a foundation that made betting on Wavelytics feel like a natural next step toward a shared vision of innovation and best-in-class methodology.

"There's a long history there, and there's trust," Somma explains, referring to Janitronics’ relationship with TEAM Software and WorkWave. "We know, no matter what, even when there's going to be problems, you guys will make it right."

That confidence was reinforced by WorkWave's current leadership and their commitment to product innovation. When Somma needed to demonstrate the platform's potential to his regional management team, he worked closely with the Wavelytics development team on custom materials to help show what the solution could do for Janitronics, including functionality like real-time timekeeping where they’ll be able to catch time theft, ghost employees and other costly issues immediately, instead of going by undetected for weeks, and industry benchmarking.

“Being a private company, we don’t always know where we stack up on certain metrics against our industry counterparts. Having that benchmarking capability will allow us to dig into data like, How does our account team operate as a percentage of sales, compared to industry best practices? How about as a percent of our labor force? What compensation structures are best practice in the industry right now? What types of markets are other facility management companies entering, and what are they seeing?  It’s knowledge like this that will really help us scale strategically and push ourselves even further.”

Transforming the Industry as We Know It

Looking forward, Somma is excited to continue the early adopter program partnership and anticipates when teams will begin actively using the platform for daily decision-making. Further down the road, he sees even greater potential as AI capabilities develop, enabling supervisors to get instant recommendations on staffing decisions and streamlining financial analysis that currently requires hours of manual work.

"AI has a lot of potential," Somma notes. "It's going to transform how we operate."

For now, he's confident in the decision to join early rather than wait. The combination of industry expertise, peer learning and the ability to influence development has already proven valuable.
