If you read our recent blog post How to Attract Star Pest Control Technicians , you’re on your way to recruiting, screening, interviewing, and hiring some of the best pest technicians for this upcoming season. But there’s a second part to all of this - once you’ve hired them, how do you keep them?
Throughout this post, we’ll explore some of the key factors to retaining the star technicians you worked so hard to hire. When you treat your existing team right, they’re more likely to be loyal - saving you time, money, and stress in not having to go through the hiring process again in order to replace that employee.
Pay them fairly
While there’s a few different ways pest control companies handle paying their technicians (hourly, commission, hourly + commission, salary) - you have to make sure you’re paying your technicians fairly if you want them to stick around.
Provide competitive benefits
Your technicians work hard - give them a better quality of life by providing them with health & life insurance, as well as a retirement savings plan.
Listen to them & value their opinion
From the start, make sure you keep the lines of communication open between your technicians, yourself, and members of the management team. Encourage them to bring new ideas to the table, ask questions, and provide feedback.
Let them know they’re appreciated
Thank your employees for their hard work and dedication to your company. Gift cards, a free meal or a sponsored company event can go a long way. While hosting an event will cost more money - having a company picnic at the end of your busy season is a good way to bring everyone together, along with their families to show your appreciation.
